This bush bean was originally bred at the University of New Hampshire in 1957. This easy to grow bush type plant produces copious amounts of stringless, 6″ tasty beans all season. Great for colour in salads and snacking, or for enjoying cooked covered with butter. Cooking or blanching will turn the beans green.

Growing Directions

Sow seeds 1″ deep, 6″ apart, in full sun when all chance of heavy frost has past. Harvest often for continual harvest. Sow seeds every 3 weeks for season long harvesting. Benefits from compost amended soil.

Originating from Peru, spread by migrating tribes and cultivated 8000 years ago, these are commonly used in Latin American cuisine as often as corn. Shaped like a kidney these light red beans have a sweet flavour and light texture and are full of potassium, Vitamin B9, iron, phosphorus and fiber. Great in chili, vegetarian dishes, and pasta or bean salads.

Growing Directions

Sow seeds 1″ deep, 6″ apart when ground is warm and all chance of
frost has past. Bush type variety will grow to 2-3′ high, with
prolific amounts of beans. Harvest fresh or dried on the plant.

Originally named Texas Wonder and also known as Old Homestead, this pole bean was renamed and introduced publicly in 1877 and has been a success for gardeners since. There is no better bean for cooking, or freezing and it’s harvests are enormous. Produces 7-9” stringless pods on 6-8’ high plants that rely on poles or a trellis to climb. Originally introduced in 1900 from a cross between Black Eyed Wax and Improved Black Wax, this stringless bush variety is one of the best wax beans there is. Resistant to rust and Mosaic Virus and more fungal resistant than most other wax varieties. Plants grow to 2′ tall and produce an abundant crop of buttery tasting yellow 5-6″ beans, that are great fresh or frozen.

This soup bean was brought to North America from Austria in the 1870’s by the Hutterite Christians. This delicious creamy, buttery flavored bean is great for soups. This plant is a bush variety but can grow up to 3′ tall, typically not requiring support. Heavy producer, with pods reaching 7″ long and up to 7 beans per pod.

Growing Directions

Sow seeds directly outdoors in full sun 1″ deep, and space 6″ apart, after all chance of frost has past and ground is warm. Do not over fertilize or plant will produce heavy foliage with few flowers/pods.

Sow seed 1″ deep 2″ apart in full sun, when ground is warm and all chance of frost has past. Thin to 6-8″. Over fertilizing will result in excessive foliage and low and delayed fruit production. Sowing seeds every couple of weeks will enable harvesting throughout the season.
