This tomato originated from the Cherokee nation in Tennessee in 1890.
This very heavy producing variety, with fruits surpassing 12-16 oz., is a favorite of avid tomato growers. Producing colors of purplish brown to green shoulders these tomatoes are prized for their robust rich tomato flavour. Great for slicing, salads, soups and even sauces. Indeterminate variety with fantastic disease resistance.

Growing Directions

Sow seeds 1/4″ deep, indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost. Transplant or sow directly outdoors 36-48″ apart in full sun, when ground is warm and all chance of frost has past. Fertilize with fish emulsion.
Support with strong stake as the heavy fruits will topple most cages.

Originally shared by British, French and Sardinia’s (Italian) soldiers returning from the Crimea War in 1856, in Crimea, Russia, a peninsula on the Black Sea. This indeterminate produces 8-16 oz. oblate shaped red to purple and mahogany slicers, perfect for sandwiches and salads. A favourite of growers and chefs alike, with flavors of Merlot, salty and sweet.

Growing Directions

Sow seeds 1/4″ deep, indoors 6 weeks before last frost. Transplant or sow directly outdoors 2-3′ apart in full sun when ground is warm and all chance of frost has past. Support with stake or cage. Plants will benefit from an organic fertilizer.
