Created in 1940, by the Waltham Agricultural Experimental Field Station from the Canada Crookneck Squash. This is one of the most popular of all winter squash there is, with a small seed cavity, chubby bowling pin shape and a sweet, nutty, mild flavour that produces 4 to 5 fruits per plant. This heavy producer grows fruits to 4-5 pounds and has great storage capabilities. Flavour will improve even more when stored for 2 months.
Sow seeds 1″ deep in 18″ hills set apart at least 3′ apart in full sun, when all chance of frost has past. Harvest before hard frost. Taste and sweetness improve with at least 2 months storage.
